Shenandoah Kitchen Renovation
Interior, Kitchen
When Pat and Jessica Garrett approached REFINE/UIC about a kitchen renovation for their turn of the century St. Louis home, they had already completed a good deal of renovation work toward their goal of making this historic home all their own for them and their two sons. But with a daunting kitchen renovation in a room that had been cut up in a difficult way and in need of some critical structural repairs, they needed a little help. Starting with a magazine photo of a desired look and feel for the kitchen, UIC’s architecture and construction team helped the Garrett’s create the kitchen they were looking for.
The existing space was divided into two rooms, with an unused rear staircase, dating back to the time the home was a two family building. The space was cleared of the demising wall and the staircase was removed to reveal a large opening to a second floor living area and roof light. This created a 10 foot deep space, running along the entire rear wall of the home, which was organized with cooking on one end and storage and dining on the other. Based on the Garrett’s original ambition, the cabinets were selected of a light colored wood and our carpentry team constructed a bespoke birch plywood backsplash and bracket-less shelf for day to day storage.
